Building Digital Citizenship for Ages 4-12
The eSmart Digital Licence program is a comprehensive suite of educator-led lessons for learners aged 4-12 years.
The program is adaptable to a range of education settings and offers all the resources needed to build essential digital and media literacy skills.
Ready-to-use lessons
Every lesson is ready to be used, with clear learning intentions, success criteria, and instructions. Tailored for flexibility, these lessons come with multimedia resources and worksheets that can be easily adapted to fit different educational contexts.
Expertly designed, evidence-based content
The program is structured around four key online safety risk areas, ensuring age-appropriate, trauma-sensitive, and pedagogically-sound learning. Co-designed with educators, learners, and education experts across Australia, it provides comprehensive tools to assess learning progress and adapt to diverse needs.
Engaging and customisable learning experiences
The eSmart Digital Licence quest engages learners aged 4-12 years with animated videos, hands-on activities, and printables that make online safety fun to learn. Each lesson is designed for all learners to achieve their goals while allowing room for creativity.
Earn eSmart Digital Licences
Upon completing the program, learners each earn an eSmart Digital Licence. The licence can be personalised, printed, or proudly displayed them in classrooms; the Licence signals that learners have joined a nationwide group of positive digital citizens who are ready to navigate the online world safely, responsibly, and respectfully.

How is the eSmart Digital Licence program delivered?
The program is designed to be led by educators and comes fully equipped with comprehensive lesson plans, worksheets, and multimedia resources. Specifically tailored for primary school students aged 4 to 12 years, the program provides the flexibility to customise its content to align with various educational schedules and standards.
What specific lessons are necessary to earn an eSmart Digital Licence?
Earning an eSmart Digital Licence requires learners to complete one lesson from each of the four online safety risk areas (four lessons in total). It is recommended that the program begins with an introductory session to assess learners' initial understanding of digital citizenship, followed by the targeted lessons, and concluding with a session to review what has been learned and to celebrate the program's completion.
How does the program align with educational curricula and frameworks?
The program aligns with multiple educational standards, including the Australian Curriculum (version 9), the My Time, Our Place framework for School-aged Care, and the CASEL Framework for social and emotional wellbeing. It is designed to integrate smoothly into a variety of subjects such as English, Drama, Health and Physical Education, Digital Technologies, and General Capabilities.
